Cooper Webb battles to 3rd place finish at Foxborough SX
Late race heroics plus mistakes from the other riders allowed Webb, the 450 class points leader, to extend his overall lead in the standings.
For all other forms of motorsport, sans mud bog racing (if that’s even timed/scored), the vehicles would have been parked on Saturday night in Massachusetts with thick, soupy mud covering the Gillette Stadium floor. But not for Monster Energy AMA Supercross. No way. The show must go on.
Arguably the muddiest supercross racing since the 2003 FIM World Supercross event in Seville, Spain, Gillette Stadium – beloved home of the NFL’s New England Patriots – played host to a contest that that folks will talk about for some time - unless you were one of the racers or, moreover, one of the crew that has to clean up the mess. Then you’ll just as soon forget it.
When it was all said and done Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb, the overall premier 450 class points leader, was on the podium. At least it looked like him through rain soaked and mud dotted camera lenses.
“It was definitely a ‘do or die’ situation,” said Webb of his late race charge to the 450 podium at Foxborough. “I’d already fallen twice, so once I got up and regrouped it was almost like an F&!# it attitude and just kind of charge forward.”
The charge was highlighted, for the fans at least, by a possible disastrous near miss when he jumped over Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha teammate Justin Cooper, who actually led the main event at the start, as the race drew to a close. The move allowed Webb to make the last run on the podium, a hard fought 3rd place finish.
With the podium result, along with Chase Sexton’s (KTM) 6th place finish, Webb moved 15 points clear in the overall 450 class championship points battle. Webb now leads Sexton 256-241 with five rounds remaining on the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross schedule.

In 250 ESX class action at Foxborough there wasn’t much to speak about in terms of podium success for Monster Energy racers, although Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker, who placed 9th, was still able to leave Massachusetts with the overall 250 ESX series points lead. Star Racing/Yamaha’s Daxton Bennick was Monster Energy’s top placer on the night with a well-deserved 5th place run.
Lastly, in SMX Next racing, Monster Energy had two racers up on the box. Landen Gordon (Kawasaki/Team Green) would end up 2nd while Monster Energy-backed KTM racer, Luke Fauser, placed 3rd.

Notes & Quotes
- The good people at Feld Entertainment announced, prior to Saturday’s Foxborough post-race press conference, that 2025 has enjoyed eight out of the top ten most streamed races in the history of Monster Energy AMA Supercross. Viewership is up by 21-percent for 2025.
- “I thought he was going to torch his engine.” – NBC announcer Ricky Carmichael on Webb, citing how reliable the Yamaha YZ450F is.
- Because of the tremendously sloppy conditions at Gillette Stadium, Saturday’s race was shortened from the regular 22 laps (give or take) to only nine laps.
- Monster Energy/Kawasaki announced earlier in the week that top 450 class racer, Jason Anderson, will miss the rest of the supercross season to work on recovering from an undisclosed injury(s). Anderson is said to be returning for the Outdoor National MX season, which begins May 24th at Fox Raceway in Pala, Calif.
- Webb caught a big time points break on the final lap when not only Sexton ran into difficulties, but so did Ken Roczen (Suzuki) and Justin Barcia (Gas Gas) – all of whom were ahead of Webb heading into the last lap.
- As Webb caught a break in the 450 class, so did Hammaker in the 250 ESX class main event when KTM veteran and former MXGP series MX2 class champ Tom Vialle crashed on the final lap and placed last. Vialle and Hammaker are now tied at 99 points for the overall 250 ESX title chase, with Hammaker enjoying the tie breaker.
- Another casualty in the 250 ESX class at Foxborough was support class veteran RJ Hampshire. The Husqvarna racer, who was ten points back of Vialle to start the weekend, placed 14th for eight points. This allowed Hammaker (13 points for 9th) to move past Hampshire as well.
- One final shout out to the crew from Feld Entertainment and track builder Dirt Wurx for the job they did putting on a race (and cleaning up after it) during the crappiest of conditions. High five from everyone at Monster Energy!
Up next: Once all the Massachusetts mud is power washed off the Tuff Blocks, scoring tower and finish line structure (not to mention all the signage), the traveling Monster Energy AMA Supercross circus rolls down to Philly’s Lincoln Financial Field for Round 13 of the series, April 12th.
