Bewley wins FIM Speedway GP Round 4 @ Manchester, Lindgren podiums @ Rd. 5
Today’s greatest British FIM Speedway GP racer, Monster Energy’s Dan Bewley, blazed to victory this past Friday in front of his hometown fans at the opening of two rounds of racing at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium, the ATPI FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Manchester.
The Belle Vue club racer, who began his National Development League in 2016 at Manchester, took it to current SGP World Champion Bartosz Zmarzlik in front of the venue’s largest crowd ever (estimated 5,500), and praised his fellow Brits from atop the podium in yet another memorable SGP victory for the Cumbrian local.
“It’s pretty cool, I’m not gonna lie,” said the beaming Bewley when asked of what it meant to him to win at Manchester, in front of his hometown fans. “I’ve raced here since my very first meet. So to win here, at an event like this, is surreal.”

To the echoing chants of Bewley, Bewley, it took a spectacular race in the LCQ, coming from behind to top Monster Energy’s Jack Holder, just to make the main event. In the main he survived a run in with the track’s wall before jetting to the lead and beating Zmarzlik to the checkers for his fifth career SGP victory.

In Saturday’s second round of the Manchester double header, Monster Energy’s “Fast” Freddie Lindgren, who made Friday’s main event (and placed 4th), would catch his weekend’s second main event - racing to a 3rd place podium finish in Round 5. Lindgren’s second podium run of the season (also Prague), has him in 3rd place in the overall standings with 70 points, 12 back of 2nd place Brady Kurtz (82 points).
“It’s been a cool weekend with some speedway here at Manchester,” said Lindgren. “In the finals both days. One step better today on the podium. Friday (I) went a bit too deep into one of the corners, about collected a Monster logo (banner) there. Gave it all I had and came up 3rd today.”

Coming away from Manchester with 26 points was Holder, who stands alone in 4th place in the overall standings, just two points back of Lindgren. And with 61 points on the season, 27 from Manchester, is Bewley in 5th position.
