Tatsuro Taira rebounds from his first career loss with a dominant second-round submission win over Hyun Sung Park at UFC Vegas 108.

Back in the winner’s circle! Monster Energy proudly congratulates MMA athlete Tatsuro Taira on his impressive victory over Hyun Sung Park in the main event at UFC Vegas 108. Competing in the Flyweight division on the Main Card, the 25-year-old from Okinawa, Japan, secured a second-round submission to mark a powerful return.

UFC Vegas 108: Taira vs. Park took place in front of a live audience at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The six-fight Main Card aired live on ESPN, with Prelims streamed via ESPN+.

Taira (17-1), representing Monster Energy, entered the Octagon looking to bounce back from his first career loss—a split decision against Brandon Royval at UFC Vegas 98 in October 2024. Prior to that setback, Taira was widely seen as a rising contender in the UFC Flyweight division. Saturday’s win was crucial to reclaim his momentum.

Originally scheduled to face Amir Albazi, Taira’s opponent withdrew due to a medical issue. Stepping in on short notice, 29-year-old Hyun Sung Park (10-1) of South Korea brought an undefeated record and added intrigue to the matchup.

The fight began cautiously, with both athletes testing range and timing. Momentum shifted when Taira landed two clean right hands, dropping Park to the canvas. Taira maintained ground control for the remainder of the round, working toward a submission setup.

In Round 2, Taira opened with a sharp jab followed by a body slam that put Park on his back. From dominant position, Taira locked in a body triangle and applied a crushing face crank. Park tapped out just 66 seconds into the round, sealing a decisive win.

“I’m happy, thank you!” said Taira in his post-fight Octagon interview.

Looking ahead, Taira is focused on the UFC Flyweight title. “It’s been ten months since the Royval fight, and I’m back strong,” he said. “I’ll wait to see who wins between Pantoja and Joshua Van and hopefully I get the next shot.”
