Gordon Strikes Back: Monster Energy Racer Ends Temmerman’s Streak at Loretta’s

Published On: 8/1/2025

Gordon takes the win in Open Pro Sport Moto 2, snapping Enzo Temmerman’s undefeated run and adding to Monster Energy’s medal haul at the 44th Amateur Nationals.

Just when you thought Monster Energy’s Enzo Temmerman (Team Green/Kawasaki) was going to run the table at the 44th running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, after starting out with a perfect 3-0 record in 250 Pro Sport and Open Pro Sport, his highly touted teammate and rival, Landen Gordon, put a stop to Temmerman’s streak by winning the second moto of Open Pro Sport at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., on Thursday.

For Day 3 at Loretta’s Monster Energy racers scored eight wins and 18 podiums. All totaled, Monster Energy racers have 27 wins and 58 podiums through three (of five) days of racing.

With the win Gordon and Temmerman are now tied, both with a win and a second place finish, and with one Open Pro Sport moto to go (Saturday). And that’ll not only decide who’s next in terms of top upcoming pro racers, it can also decide who’ll leave Loretta’s with the coveted AMA Nicky Hayden Horizon award for the nation’s best amateur motocross racer.

Said Gordon of Thursday’s race: “I got off to a great start. Had a good gate pick. Put down some solid laps, got away from the group. Then they cut it short due to lightning, but I was glad I got it done.”

Added Temmerman: “It wasn’t a great moto for me. But I worked my way into second place. Pacing Landen for a bit there. It’s all good though. And 2nd isn’t bad, not a bad week so far.”

...

Monster Energy racers bringing home gold medals on Thursday, in addition to Gordon, include Mayla Herrick (Girls), Darren Pine (Supermini 1), Cooper Johnson (Mini Sr. 2), Tristan Pruiett (125 Jr. B/C), Sawyer Gieck (85 Ltd), Max Shane (450 B Limited) and Deacon Denno (250 B).

Notes & Quotes

  • “Trust myself. Trust my bike. Hit all my shifts good. And then I made it happen.” – Tristan Pruiett on his 125 Jr. B/C Moto 2 win.
  • “Honestly? That was truly embarrassing. I didn’t know what I was doing. Couldn’t find the flow and started to pump up because I didn’t know what I was doing.” – Owen Covell on his 3rd place podium 250 B Moto 2 finish, which was his first non-1st place finish of the weekend.
  • “Got the lead midway, then got extreme arm pump. Got to figure that out.” – Vincent Wey
  • “I sat behind him (Wey) for a while. Not many good places to pass. Set him up a couple laps, then finally made it work. Just rode my race and brought it home.” – 250 B Moto 2 winner Deacon Denno.
  • “I’m feeling great. I got the quad in the sand. Didn’t want to lose and gave it everything I had. Didn’t let off. Just sent it.” – Mayla Herrick on her Girls (11-16) win.
  • “Well, get a better start. Starts suck right now. Gotta be a little bit better.” – Colt Martin on the key to winning the third and deciding Supermini 1 race. He’s 1-2 and Monster Energy rival Darren Pine is 2-1.
  • Added Pine: “I didn’t care if I got tired or not. Just went out and did my laps. My start was trash, again. We fix that up and we’ll be alright for (Supermini 1) Moto 3.
  • “I got like a sixth place start, worked my way up. Tried to catch Sawyer (Gieck, Monster Energy), he’s really fast here. Good ride for him.” - Eidan Steinbrecher, 2nd place 85 Limited.
  • Added Gieck, who’s undefeated (4-0) in 85 and 85 Limited racing this week. “Yeah, Eiden was going really fast out there. He challenged me. Got a good start, third or fourth, Eiden got in behind me. He was shredding.”
  • “I got off to an amazing start, might have got the holeshot. I was in second for a while. Just kind of rode my race. Knew it was a long moto. Got the Husky dialed in; suspension was doing good. Put the bike where I wanted to. Couldn’t have been a better moto.” – 450 B Limited winner Max Shane.
