Haiden Deegan Wins in the 250 Western Region (WSX) Event

Monster Energy's Haiden Deegan dominants in 250 class win; Cole Davies also podiums

The second Anaheim (Calif.) installment of 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross on Saturday saw Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha) return to his winning ways in the 250 Western Region’s (WSX) third round of racing, winning the main event with Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha teammate Cole Davies placing 3rd. And in 450 class action, Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson raced tough – and made the night’s final main event podium with a 3rd place run.

With his winning effort, the first of the 2025 supercross season, Deegan vaulted to 2nd place in the overall standings while Davies, with his first career Monster Energy AMA Supercross podium, jumped into the top five (5th).

Said Deegan: “No pressure. Just straight war mode. I’m blocking out everything. I needed a win. And that’s what it came down to.”

Right out of the start in the 250 WSX main event, it was Deegan and KTM’s Julien Beaumer, the series points leader, going at it in the 1 & 2 position. Beaumer had a shot in the second corner to take out the leader Deegan (possibly in retaliation of the aggro pass Deegan made on Beaumer in their heat race), but held up and Deegan broke free – winning the race in a dominant holeshot-to-checkers run.

As the clouds opened up midway through the race, Davies would move near podium position – then gained his first career pro WSX podium when Triumph’s Jordon Smith hit the dirt while trying, in vain, to catch Beaumer for 2nd. Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Michael Mosiman and Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawaski’s Drew Adams rounded out the Monster Energy 250 WSX scoring in 7th and 8th places, respectively.

On the big bore 450 bikes, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Justin Cooper – fresh out of the Last Chance Qualifier – ripped the main event holeshot and took the early race lead. Anderson would catch and pass race leader Cooper on Lap 6, then proceeded to lead the next seven laps. Race winner Jett Lawrence (Honda) would catch and pass Anderson, cleanly, on Lap 15.

450 series points leader heading into Anaheim 2, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Eli Tomac, had a horrible start (18th place at the start of Lap 2) and had to battle back like a madman just to make 7th. Just behind Tomac was his teammate Cooper Webb (8th), whom Tomac battled late in the contest, with Justin Cooper completing the all-Yamaha Tomac bookend placement with a 6th place run.

Overall in the 450 standings Tomac is tied for 3rd place with Jett Lawrence (both with 57 points), Webb’s in 5th with Anderson moving up to 6th and Cooper in 8th.

Notes & Quotes

  • “Me and Christian (Craig) just put in too much work for me to be in 3rd place. That’s not happening. This was war ready.” – Deegan
  • “You wondered when it was going to happen – and it happened tonight. There’s Deegan giving him the business.” NBC announcer Ricky Carmichael on the heat race get together/slight takeout between Deegan and KTM’s Julien Beaumer.
  • A post-race hand slap after the finish, initiated by Beaumer with Deegan, was a good sign of no hard feelings. But this’ll for sure be a pair to watch as the series moves to Glendale, Ariz., this weekend.
  • “He’s got the red plate. And I’m gonna ride him like he’s got the red plate.” – Deegan on his pursuit of WSX points leader Beaumer.
  • Also cool, the Deegan/Beaumer/Davies podium was the first time since the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season that three teenagers were on an overall podium.
  • “That Monster Energy/Kawasaki race team and Brock Tickle and company done a great job setting that bike up.” – Carmichael on Anderson’s KX450
  • Tomac’s rough start at Anaheim 2 marked the second time he’s started outside the Top 20 in three 450 class main events this year. Tomac picked the same gate that Deegan got the 250 holeshot out of, but lost traction/drive into the first turn due to the elevated rainfall.
  • Tough news in 450 qualifying when Monster Energy/Kawasaki SX rookie – and two-time MXGP World Champion – Jorge Prado over-shot a jump, blasted through some Tuff Blocks, and into the safety netting. Prado laid on the ground, pointing to his right shoulder for the medics. Prado would leave the track with a sling immobilizing his injured shoulder.
  • The podium at Anaheim 2 for Anderson marked a podium sweep at the two Anaheim rounds as he also placed 3rd at the Anaheim 1 opener of ’25 Monster Energy AMA Supercross.
