Motocross Racers Lead Team USA into 2024 MXoN

What’s known as the ‘Olympics of Motocross,’ the 2024 Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Monster Energy Motocross of Nations, will has a distinct Monster Energy flair as two racers from the powerhouse Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha program – veterans Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb – will join fellow American racer Aaron Plessinger (KTM) to race for the famed Chamberlain Cup at the U.K.’s Matterley Basin Circuit, Oct. 4-6.

A virtual cavalcade of Monster Energy-backed American motocross specialists were considered for the three positions on Team USA, including recently crowned MX Nationals and SuperMotocross World Champion Haiden Deegan (Star Racing/Yamaha), along with Honda’s latest up-and-coming superstar, Monster Energy’s Chance Hymas. But due to scheduled off-season surgery (wrist) for Deegan and a recent moto-related injury suffered by Hymas, multi-time MX/SX champions Webb and Tomac were pumped to go in place Deegan and Hymas, specifically in Tomac’s case, in place of Chase Sexton (KTM), who was hurt in a racing incident at the Vegas SMX.

Said Tomac in a recent press release from Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha: “Due to the unfortunate racing incident Chase was involved in at the final round of SMX (Vegas), I was the next one in line to take his place for Team USA. Aaron (Plessinger), Cooper and I are ready to give it our best effort at Matterley Basin. This is very short notice for my team, but we are going to make it happen!”

Tomac, who has been a member of numerous MXoN teams, recently helped (along with Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamah’s Justin Cooper and Sexton) Team USA break a nine-year run by European MXoN winning teams when the won the RedBud Des Nations in 2022. The No. 2 all-time Monster Energy AMA Supercross race winner with 52 wins (3rd all-time AMA Motocross winner with 32 wins), Tomac boasts four premier 450 class motocross titles and two 450 class supercross titles. 

Tomac proudly represents Team USA as a living/racing legend at Matterley Basin.

Webb, who’s returning from injury (thumb), as is Tomac, following an abbreviated 2024 MX Nationals season, is a two-time 450 class SX champion and 250 class MX champion. He brings MXoN experience to Team USA as well, being the captain of the 2016 Des Nations team that placed 2nd.

“I’m so excited to be headed to MXoN,” said Webb via social media. “It’s a fire drill situation (last-minute replacement for Hymas), but I’m extremely grateful. I’ve been all in on the 250 prep following the Vegas SMX and I’m excited for the opportunity to represent my country. Let’s do this!”

As stated, Webb will race the MX2 (250) class that Hymas was set to race at Matterley, while Tomac will contest the MX1 (450) class that Sexton was racing.
