Eli Tomac Wins FIM World Supercross Overall Title

Published On: 12/6/2024

Monster Energy's Eli Tomac (CDR Yamaha) secures his first WSX premier class title in Abu Dhabi.

Carrying a 16-point lead (100-84) over rival Ken Roczen (Suzuki) into the final round of the FIM World Supercross (WSX) at Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arean on Yas Island, Monster Energy’s Eli Tomac (CDR Yamaha), with support from Star Racing, just needed to keep Roczen in sight in order to secure his first WSX premier class title.

And when the final checker flag flew at Etihad Arean, the veteran Tomac had played it smart enough and did just what needed to be done as Roczen won the night, with Tomac bringing home the overall WSX title with a 2nd place run.

"Becoming World Supercross Champion is an incredible feeling and a testament to our team’s hard work,” said Tomac, who’ll be in the starting gate for the 2025 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series opener in Anaheim (Calif.) in just over a month. “We started strong with dominant wins and capped it off with a victory in Abu Dhabi, despite the challenges of a tight track. It’s been amazing competing against top riders from around the world, and I’m so proud to end the WSX season on the top step."

Tomac set himself up for the cruise to victory at Abu Dhabi at the previous WSX round in Perth, Australia. At Marvel Stadium, Tomac would run to 1-1-1 Superpole and (two) moto finish to top Roczen by a point. Tomac then matched that effort the following day in Perth, taking the SuperFinal – which featured a field of top racers from both the WSX (450cc) and SX2 (250cc) classes.

With Tomac having won the preliminary SuperPole with a time of 38.420, the final WSX round in Abu Dhabi turned into a three-racer battle with Roczen on top, followed closely by Tomac, who rode pretty much mistake free to top fellow American Joey Savatgy (Honda). And overall, Tomac would win the season WSX title by 43 points over Roczen, with Savatgy placing 3rd overall.
