Webb Wins Foxborough SX 2024

With a timely main event holeshot and wire-to-wire victory at Round 13 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross held at Foxborough’s (Mass.) Gilette Stadium, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Cooper Webb locked down Saturday’s 450 class victory and, in the process, tied Honda’s Jett Lawarence for the overall series points lead with four rounds remaining, 261-261.

Webb’s dominant performance, including being the fastest qualifier and nailing his fourth victory of the season (first-ever at Gilette Stadium)  gave the two-time 450 supercross class champion a huge boost of confidence heading into the stretch run of the series.

“Great start, holeshot was huge,” said Webb. “Felt like me and Kenny (Roczen/Suzuki) had a great pace at the beginning and then saw Chase (Sexton/Honda) catching Kenny and we were all riding really well. Had a little bit of a gap, then made that big mistake in the rhythm (section) and it tightened right up quick. Chase made the pass (on Roczen) and I could feel him coming. Just tried to hit my marks the last few laps. Hadn’t led a whole main event in some time. And to get the co-points lead is an amazing feeling.”

Monster Energy/Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson, who won Foxborough last year, would have one of his best 450 main event runs in some time, placing 4th on the night. And rounding out the top ten for Monster Energy were Eli Tomac (Star Racing/Yamaha) in 6th, teammate Justin Cooper in 8th and Justin Hill (Team Tedder) in 9th.

In the return to 250 Eastern Region (ESX) racing, Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Haiden Deegan would complete the Monster Energy 1st place podium sweep at Foxborough with the first wire-to-wire win of the night. Deegan out-dueled KTM’s Tom Vialle at the start, then rode pretty much mistake-free for the victory - out-lasted a charging 2nd place Cameron McAdoo (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) for the victory.

Said Deegan on his second career win: “At the beginning I pulled the holeshot and was like ‘Dude, this is what I need.’ Once I got out front I was able to ride my own race. Laid down a couple sprint laps and got a good gap. Obviously, Cameron (McAdoo) wasn’t able to get me. Held that gap and just managed it.”

Rounding out the night in Foxborough with yet another Monster Energy main event victory was Drew Adams (Kawasaki/Team Green), who won the SX Futures race over Monster Energy/Star Racing/Yamaha’s Gavin Towers. The win for Adams was his third in four SX Futures races this season.

• “Just to be mistake-free and ride up front was what I was focused on. And we were able to do it.” – Haiden Deegan on his plan for Foxborough.
• Added Deegan: “Really, I had more in the tank. I was riding at 85 to 90-percent just managing the race (in the main). If Cameron (McAdoo) did get closer, obviously I could have picked it up quite a bit.”
• “By the time I got into second, I think Haiden had three to four seconds on me. With how slick it was there was some potential for mistakes, and there wasn’t anywhere that I could make up that much time,” said Cameron McAdoo, the overall ESX points leader, on his pursuit of Deegan at Foxborough.
• Big crash for Seth Hammaker (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) early in the 250 main event. Was able to get up under his own power, but headed straight back to the hauler and was done for the night.
• “Worked on executing our starts better. And once you get a good start the race is a lot easier.” - Drew Adams (Monster Energy/Kawasaki/Team Green) made it three wins in four SX Futures races this season, and leads the points chase.
• Monster Energy shout out to the Dirt Wurx and Feld Motorsports teams that managed to pull together a raceable track at Gilette Stadium, despite the torrential rains earlier in the week – and rain night of the race. 
• Added Webb: “The track was really tricky, especially when it started to rain. … It could reach up and bite you.”
• Finally, Monster Energy salutes Kawasaki great Adam Cianciarulo, who announced he would retire at the end of the 2024 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season. The all-time greatest racer at the Monster Energy/Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championships (11 class victories) and 2019 Outdoor Nationals 250 class champion, Cianciarulo’s career spanned 20 years with the Monster Energy/Kawasaki marque.
