Unstoppable. Unbreakable. Unrelenting. For a skateboarder who perfectly embodies the Monster Energy spirit, look no further than Felipe Nunes. At the age of 6, the native of Curitiba, Brazil lost both legs in an accident playing on train tracks. He spent five years in a wheelchair until he discovered using a longboard as his mode of transportation. Before long, this led to picking up a regular skateboard and attempting tricks that Felipe saw street skateboarders perform. Except without being able to use his legs and without the use of prosthetics. Developing his own technique, Felipe started performing kickflips using his hands and grinding handrails like his idols, always willing to take a slam to get those tricks. Which led to contest wins and titles in adaptive skateboarding – although he considers himself just a skateboarder. Period. “Thinking about it, I created my personal phrase; ‘No excuses!’ Which means doing what has to be done!” said Felipe. With his ‘no excuses’ approach, Felipe has already opened numerous doors for adaptive skateboarders and proved an inspiration to riders across the world with his milestone achievements. The first adaptive skateboarder to conquer the notorious Loop ramp? First to earn a pro model on Tony Hawk’s board company? First on the cover of Thrasher magazine? Felipe is all that – and then some!
