Dan Bewley helps Great Britain to 2024 FIM Speedway of Nations championship

Published On:: 14/07/2024

Big night for the Monster Energy-backed stars of FIM Speedway GP as the trio of Dan Bewley (Great Britain), Jack Holder (Australia) and Freddie Lindgren (Sweden) all helped their respective countries to the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, respectively, at the 2024 FIM Speedway of Nations held at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, England.

For Bewley, who currently sits in 9th place in the FIM Speedway GP points, the night was especially thrilling as not only did he help Great Britain to its second SON championship in two years, but he was also able to do it in front of his hometown fans.

“Awesome night. Awesome week. Been a blast and you could just feel the energy from the crowd every time we rode out,” said Bewley.

Bewley ran into some issues early on, saying half-jokingly “I thought my bike wanted to kill me the second race.” He switched to his backup bike and rode to victory with his teammates. “It’s cool when you’ve got two good bikes in the pits. Just one was not working and you change and you believe in it.”

With a SON Silver medal hanging around his neck, Monster Energy’s Holder – the captain of Team Australia - was, like all the rest, hoping for the gold. But overall he said the experience was a good one for he and his Australian teammates.

“Unfortunately Team Australia got second, but overall it was a good night for the Team Aussie and myself,” said Holder, who’s in 2nd place in the overall FIM Speedway GP standings. “Good ‘ole Manchester loves a bit of rain, so fortunately it was a dry night. Obviously, good racing, everyone was safe and it was a good night, but we just fell short of the Gold medal. Really honored to be the captain for Australia. I’ve always wanted to do something like that and I’m again honored to captain Australia to a Silver medal at the Speedway of Nations.”

Leading Team Sweden to its Bronze medal at SON, and completing the Monster Energy podium representation for all three medals, was Lindgren, who’s tied for 4th place in the FIM Speedway GP standings. “We gave it our best shot. Gave it everything we had. I was involved in a pretty bad (heat) crash in my fourth outing. Pretty bruised and battered. Rode through the pain the last couple of heats, but we got the Bronze medal and I’m very proud of that performance.”
