He’s back! Freddie Lindgren wins the Gorzow FIM Speedway GP

Published On:: 30/06/2024

Last year’s FIM Speedway GP overall runner up, Monster Energy’s Freddie Lindgren, scored his first victory of the ’24 SGP season, burning up the heats and dominating the main event with a victory over defending SGP champion and hometown favorite Bartosz Zmarzlik at Gorzow’s Edward Jancarz Stadium on Saturday.

Despite starting a bit slow in practice, Lindgren, the lone Monster Energy-backed speedway racer to make the main, would tally 20 points on the day, which moved him into a tie for 4th place in the overall standings with Robert Lambert (72-72).

“Right now I’m bubbling inside,” beamed the usually reserved Lindgren after the race. “I’m so glad to be on the top step on the box in the winner’s circle again… WOOOOO! YEAH! I’m back!”

As the celebration went on in Lindgren’s camp, there was also concern for Monster Energy’s multi-time SGP World Champion, Tai Woffinden, who suffered a frightening crash in his second heat race, resulting in a trip to the hospital where X-rays confirmed a broken elbow that’ll need surgery.

“Obviously, this season has been quite frustrating,” said Woffinden. “We got to Gorzow, did quite a bit of testing, and knew which bike we were going to ride. Went out and did a good qualifying time, first one on the track and the first day was really good. In my second heat (after winning his first heat) I was committed to the outside and just ran out of track.

“It’s all part of what we do. I’ll get it fixed up and move on to the next one.”

Making the semis and bringing home nine points (8th place) from Gorzow was Monster Energy’s Jack Holder, who moved back into sole possession of 2nd place in the overall SGP standings.

“Yeah, this weekend didn’t end the way I wanted it to end,” said Holder. “It was a bit of an up and down night. Had a race win there and got to the semi final and was in good position before I had a bit of a coming together and ended up on the wrong side. But it’s all good. Moved back up in the championship to second, but also lost some points to the leader (Zmarzlik). It’s all good. I’m happy with how I’m going. It’s time to knuckle down, get back to fighting fit and I’m ready to go.”

Dan Bewley rounded out the top ten (10th) for Monster Energy at Gorzow.
