Jack Holder podiums in 3rd place at FIM Speedway GP’s Round 3 in Germany

The stars of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix (SGP) series continued to pack European stadiums, this weekend record the third-straight sellout crowd as the series stopped for Round 3 – the Trans MF FIM Speedway GP of Germany – Landshut, at OneSolar Arena.

Leading the way for Monster Energy with his second podium finish of the season was Jack Holder, placing 3rd in the full-on battle at Landshut’s SGP main event.

The Australian Holder, who currently sits in 2nd place overall in the season standings, trailing defending champion Bartosz Zmarzlik by a mere two points, 50-48, admitted he more or less skidded into the main event with some last-minute luck.

“I’ll take that,” said Holder of his 3rd place run at Landshut. “It was a tricky, tricky track. We hadn’t been here for a few years.”

Holder explained that the cutoff for the semis was nine points, which he called “Unheard of.” Regardless, he backed in and made the most of ‘er. “Last gate pick (for the semifinals). Me and my mechanic were scratching our heads all night,” added Holder. “We didn’t feel fast. Good old No. 3 gate pick, and popped out and won the semi. Then in the Final I let it all hang out and the best I could get was third.”

Bringing his Monster Energy-shod SGP bike home in 6th place was Dan Bewley. “Second after the heats, pretty good day, really. Good speed, good starts. Then just beached it off Gate 1 in the semifinals. So, uh, just kind of caught the bike on the rut and just came up a little bit short for 3rd. All-in-all a good day, but not the result we wanted. But it was a cool track. Not sure if we come back here next year, but I hope so.”

Rounding out the top ten at Landshut for Monster Energy was multi-time SGP World Champion Tai Woffinden who placed 10th. “Slight bit of progress. Qualifying was garbage. Ended up with two Gate 3s, which was a little bit tough. But no excuses. Did better than last week and the goal is to do better every Grand Prix. Prague next. Looking forward to that one.”
