Yago Dora Wins 2025 MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal

Published On: 3/26/2025

Monster Energy's Yago Dora finally claims victory after falling short in last year's season.

Yago Dora made two finals last year, and fell just short both times.

This year, he made a change, replacing his dad as his coach and trying something new with Leandro Da Silva. As the draw would have it, Yago’s most important heat of the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal was his quarterfinal against Jack Robinson — a man that’s actually coached by Yago’s dad. Awkward? Nah. Everyone is still close, including Jack and Yago, but that doesn’t mean the heat wasn’t turned up.

Yago set the screws early with a couple of sixes, and then went on to tighten them with a 7.5 and an 8 for some deep barrels and carves. After that win, Yago went on to topple fellow Monster team rider Ethan Ewing in the semis and current world No. 1 Italo Ferreira in the final.

“I felt something special was going to happen here this week,” Yago said in his post-final interview, “and it did.”

Yago’s win rockets him up 11 places in the rankings to No. 4, giving him valuable momentum going into El Salvador, the next event of the season. He finished second there last year, and you’d better believe he’ll be looking to one-up himself this time around. Congrats, Yago!
