Johannesburg Expo Centre - in an action-packed finals day, team Highborn emerged victorious at the Monster Call Of Duty Tournament at rAge.
The team had a challenging route to the finals, losing to Nixuh in the first round and being relegated to the loser's round.
In the loser's bracket, it was Highborn up against Elxvate, and eventually, this went down to the wire for a win over Elxvate and then a victory against Aerial BO6.
They then came up against Nixuh again in the final and managed to steal the win.
"On Friday, we lost the game to the team we met in the finals, against Nixuh, which put us in the losing bracket, said Highborn captain Cayden "Heroz" Beadsworth. “However, we bounced back, took on the competition, and managed to win it all. It's been an intense journey, but we carried on and made it happen.”
Monster and Mettlestate ran the Call of Duty tournament at rAge. The top four teams from the online qualifiers were invited to attend and compete at rAge on the Monster stand. They competed against each other for their share of the R10 000 prize pool.
"The vibe at the Monster Energy rig was incredible," said Beadsworth. "The energy was electric, with great music, fantastic giveaways, and an amazing atmosphere. It was such a fun and engaging experience. The staff around us was super helpful. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for anything better."
In hindsight, Highborn had a few wobbles before they secured the win.
"We threw the first lap when we really shouldn't have, and we missed the fourth lap, too," admitted Beadsworth. "It was tight, but we pulled through in the end."
At the end of it all, it is a turning point for the captain of the winning team.
"This is a new season for me", said Beadsworth. "I joined Highborn without ever having played with them before. These are incredibly talented young players, some of whom had never won a LAN event. To win alongside them is an amazing feeling. I'm stoked for them, myself, and Highborn as a team."
Congratulations to Highborn for their victory and the R10k prize.
